Conductor Ropes
Load support, control signals, and electrical power in a single rope. Explore 15 BRUGG manufacturer articles, with their conductor configurations and documented specifications.
Strength with conductivity
One rope. More than a lifting line.
Wire ropes with integrated electrical conductors suspend loads while transmitting control signals and electrical power. Standard designs contain one or more electrical conductors; ropes for special requirements can be individually designed and manufactured for the application.
Royal Rope is the exclusive master distributor in the United States for these BRUGG Lifting conductor ropes.

Electrical conductor
Single or compact conductors
The conductor arrangement and insulation are selected around the rope construction and its operating demands.

1 — Copper conductor · 2 — First conductor insulation · 3 — Second conductor insulation · 4 — Filler
Single conductor
An insulated single conductor can form a composite conductor or be placed individually at different locations within the rope.
Compact conductor
A compact conductor contains a specific number of conductors and is usually designed for one application. Better dimensional accuracy and easier processing come with higher production costs; some rope constructions are unsuitable for a compact conductor.
Insulation materials
Electrical and mechanical demands
Insulation must both isolate the conductor electrically and withstand mechanical stresses. If a conductor breaks down and shorts out, rope-drive function is strongly affected and the rope should be discarded. In normal operation, short circuits must not occur before the rope reaches its discard point.
Polyamide, polyurethane, and compounds are particularly suitable where insulation faces high mechanical stresses. Softer conventional materials, including polypropylene and polyethylene, achieve disruptive-discharge test values two to three times higher. Correct insulation design and composition are essential to reliable function throughout rope service life. Copper strands in different cross-sections serve as the electrical conductors.
Mechanical properties & end fittings
Consider lateral pressure
- Installing electrical conductors does not change the rope’s mechanical properties.
- Sensitivity to lateral pressure increases: conductor insulation tolerates only small lateral pressures without damage.
- This substantially limits the choice of end fittings.
- Fittings generating no or little lateral pressure are suitable, including stay spirals, white-metal cones with hot or cold cast, and drum fasteners.
- Wedge sockets, clamping plates, and special rope clips are suitable only under certain conditions.

Electrical specifications
Permanent voltage and current ratings at an ambient temperature of 40°C. Resistance values at 20°C; the source resistance heading also notes “max temp acc. to UL 1581” without specifying a separate maximum-temperature value.

Documented construction
Galvanized steel. Integrated conductors.
The brochure lists 8×17 S-DC 1960 B sZ, 6×19 S-DC 1960 B sZ, and 8×19 S-DC 1960 B sZ: a core with electrical conductor, galvanized steel wire, 1960 N/mm², and right-hand ordinary lay. BRUGG describes this construction as non-twisting; suitability for the actual rope drive must follow its specific requirements.

Art. = manufacturer article · Ø = nominal rope diameter · Cu = copper · MBF = minimum breaking force · WGT = weight per 100 m. A conductor entry such as 3×0.60 means three conductors, each with a 0.60 mm² cross-section. MBF is a breaking-force specification, not a working-load limit.
Application determines construction
Ways to install conductors
BRUGG illustrates three arrangements. These examples describe application distinctions; they do not substitute for equipment-specific selection.

Spiral ropes
For static or virtually static applications.

Stranded ropes
For all normal rope drives.

Spiral ropes with round strands
For rope drives requiring a rotation-resistant rope.
